How much does tree surgery cost?

Every job is different, so the price depends on the size, species, location and complexity of the work, and how easy the tree is to reach. We always come out for a free, no-obligation site visit and give you a clear written quote with no hidden charges. And because we're a sole trader and not VAT registered, the price we quote is exactly what you pay.

Question 2

Do I need permission to have work done on my tree?

Accepted Answer

Often not — but if your tree is covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or sits within a Conservation Area, you'll need consent from the local council first. We'll check for you, advise what's needed and can help with the application. We won't work on a protected tree without the proper consent, as unauthorised work can carry heavy fines.

Are you insured and qualified?

Yes. We're NPTC and Lantra certified, fully qualified arborists carrying £10 million public liability insurance on every job, and we're Checkatrade approved with a 9.95/10 rating from 480 verified reviews. Proof of insurance and qualifications is always available on request.

Question 4

What happens to all the waste and logs?

We clear everything away. All brash, timber and wood chip is removed and recycled responsibly — we hold the relevant waste carrier registration. If you'd like to keep the logs for firewood, or the wood chip for your borders, just tell us beforehand and we'll leave them for you.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes — we run a 24/7 emergency service across Southampton and Hampshire for storm damage, fallen trees and dangerous hanging branches. If it can't wait, call us any time on 07584055019 and we'll respond as quickly as we safely can.

Do you remove the stump as well?

We take the tree right down to the base. We don't currently offer stump grinding, but we're happy to talk you through your options and leave everything ready should you want the stump dealt with separately.

What areas do you cover?

We're based in Southampton and cover the whole of Hampshire — including Winchester, Eastleigh, Romsey, Fareham, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, the New Forest and everywhere in between. If you're not sure whether you're in our area, just ask.

Do you cut hedges too?

Yes. As well as trees, we carry out hedge trimming, reshaping and height reduction, leaving everything cleanly cut and tidied away.

How do I pay, and is there VAT to add?

Payment is due on completion, by the methods shown on your invoice. We're a sole trader and not VAT registered, so there's no VAT added — the figure on your quote is exactly what you'll pay.

How do I get a quote, and does it cost anything?

Quotes are completely free and there's no obligation. Where possible we'll pop out to see the tree in person so the price is accurate, and you'll get a clear written quotation that's valid for 30 days.

When is the best time of year to have tree work done?

Most tree work can be carried out safely all year round, and we work through every season. That said, winter (when many trees are dormant and have lost their leaves) is often ideal for pruning and shaping, as the structure is easier to see and the tree recovers well. Some jobs are best timed around wildlife — for example, we take great care to check hedges and trees for nesting birds during the nesting season (roughly March to August), as it is against the law to disturb them. If your work is urgent or storm-related, we'll always come out as quickly as we can, whatever the time of year.
